The Stunt Pastor

The joke is that pastors only work one hour a week... during the church service. I mean, what is a pastor supposed to do with all those other hours during the week? Well, these pastors got extremely creative with their work hours.

Lawrence Bishop II, an Ohioan pastor, wanted to get people back to church. Somehow he convinced his people to turn their church building into a bull ring, and his plan was to ride a bull named Bone Crusher. Lawrence hopped on the bull and was bucked into the air and onto the ground in less than three seconds. The pastor survived the fall, got up, jumped on stage, and preached a sermon. His nickname is now "The Cowboy Pastor."

Another church had an MMA men's ministry. Men would show up and by the pastor's own admission they were just a bunch of God-fearing men, who "Punch each other in the face." What happens in Fight Bible Study stays in Fight Bible Study.

Ed Young, a Texas pastor, wanted his Easter sermon to have a little pizzazz. So, in an effort to illustrate Jesus as both a conquering lion and gentle lamb, he rented a real lion and a real lamb to stay on the stage for the entire Sunday. Surprisingly, there were no lamb chops that Easter and Pastor Young finished the Sunday without a scratch. Joe Exotic was not yet in prison, and it is unclear if the cats came from the Tiger King or not.

Let's go out with a bang. Florida man and pastor Troy Gramling wanted to show his congregation the explosive power of the gospel. He teamed up with stunt man Mike Buse, aka Mr. Dizzy, to explode a car... with both of them in it. They successfully blew up the car and perhaps surprisingly these Florida men walked out without a single hair singed. As an added bonus, they got it on video.

If it's not already obvious, the stunts above are not in a pastor's job description. But tomorrow we are going to learn what a Pastor is called by God to do. We will take time and look at two ideas: First, what does a pastor do, and second, what is the congregation's responsibility to the pastor?

Worship with us as we publicly ordain Josh Kappert as an Elder at Arborway. Then stay for a lunch celebration afterward!

Those are incredible stories. I would have Ben the one to jump a motorcycle over the congregation. Ha, ha!! Anyway, few understand how difficult the pastor's job can be for an authentic, caring pastor called by God to preach the Word as he loves God and people building the kingdom. It can wear you out! Prat for and help your pastor with him begging. Encourage him and his family. It matters to the Lord Jesus and HIs kingdom!
