Last Sunday, we celebrated our church’s seventh anniversary. One of my dreams from the beginning of Arborway is that we would be a church that loved our neighbors. Early on, when I was first asked about the vision of Arborway, I described it as a church where each member was like a beacon of Christ’s light on their blocks.
In 2015, as I began to dream about a church in Boston, one of my former pastors challenged me, “Plant a church that if you were to suddenly disappear, the neighborhood would be distressed.” He meant that a church should be so meaningful to a community that losing it would be like losing an arm.
That’s a challenging vision, but it’s one that we pursue in several ways. One of those ways is that we want to be a church chock full of good neighbors. We want to be a church where people are excited to have a member of Arborway move in next door. Because they would know those Arborwayers love like no one else, and their block would be well taken care of. Can you even imagine that? I think it can happen.
Tomorrow, we will conclude our sermon series on loving our neighbors by looking at your purpose in the greater plan of God. I want to help you understand that your location in time and space is no accident. God has given you a great purpose on your block. Worship with us!
