Serena Jameka Williams. The G.O.A.T. of women's tennis. She accomplished some amazing athletic feats in her 27-year career. She holds 23 Grand Slam singles titles. Which is the most for the "Open era." She has also won 4 Olympic gold medals in singles and doubles competitions. Williams was ranked number one by the WTA for a total of 319 weeks and is tied for the most number of consecutive weeks at number one ever. She has won 85% of every competition she has ever been in.
Beyond those amazing accomplishments, she somehow had time to be a wife and mother. She was married in 2016 and in 2017 she gave birth to her daughter Alexis. The birth was difficult which led to many complications and a c-section. She then went on to fight postpartum depression. Then, after surviving all that, she came back and won more Grand Slam matches.
Serena was born to play tennis. But was she born for anything else? The Scriptures tells us she was. She was born to serve... no pun intended. It it's not just her. It's you too. You can’t play tennis like Serena, but all of us were created by God with our own skills and talents. Ephesians 2:10 makes it clear, "We are his workmanship, created in Christ Jesus for good works, which God prepared ahead of time for us to do." Every person on earth was created to worship God, and those that worship him were created to serve him. How do we serve God? 99 times out of 100 we serve God by serving others.
As a church we desire to be Together with Jesus. Last week we looked at what it means to be together, but this Sunday I pray you'll join us as we discover what it means to be "With" each other. Tomorrow I want to help see your greater purpose in life.
