Last week was all about the habit of sharing our faith. I argued that it's not nearly as hard as we make it out to be. You can listen to that message in our app or on YouTube. But have you ever thought about why we evangelize?
I think we can come up with some reasons. But the ultimate reason for missions and evangelism is to gather more worshipers for God. Evangelism has an expiration date. Once Jesus returns and we're all in heaven, we will no longer evangelize. So, what's the ultimate point? Worship. I love this quote from John Piper:
“Missions is not the ultimate goal of the church. Worship is. Missions exists because worship doesn’t. Worship is ultimate, not missions, because God is ultimate, not man. When this age is over and the countless millions of the redeemed fall on their faces before the throne of God, missions will be no more. It is a temporary necessity. But worship abides forever. So worship is the fuel and goal of missions.” -John Piper, Let the Nations Be Glad
As important as evangelism and missions is, it has a temporary purpose: To bring more worshipers around the throne of our Lord. Our God is more than worthy of the worship of every human on earth! The worship of Jesus is the ultimate point of it all.
Tomorrow we look at the final habit in our series: Worship. We'll look at the Bible's perspective of worship and how it not only impacts Sunday worship services but our everyday lives. I hope you'll worship with us tomorrow!
