Arborway, Let's Celebrate!

It's time to celebrate Arborway! This week we had our yearly basketball clinic. We call it Basketball Nights. Some churches do VBS (an old-school summer Bible camp), but we do Basketball Nights. It is hands down one of the most tiring weeks of the year for our staff and volunteers, but it is SO completely worth it.

  • We had more than 80 kids sign up, and greater than 60 participated. Their ages ranged from 5-14.
  • While they did not all come on one night, we only had one night below 40 participants.
  • 3 skint knees and 1 forehead raspberry. All is good though. They recovered quickly.
  • There were 4 teams of kids that rotated through 6 10-minute stations teaching basketball essentials.
  • 1 suplex.
  • Wrangling 60 kids is no easy task. To pull it off we had a team of 30 volunteers from our church and 3 partnering churches.
  • 1 magic trick.
  • 20 gallons of water. 70+ Snowcones. 50+ S'mores. 80 icecream sandwiches. 130 hotdogs. 70 bags of chips. 70 sodas.
  • But the most important number I can share is that 61 kids heard a clear gospel presentation 4 times this week. At the beginning of the week I introduced them to my favorite person in the whole universe: Jesus. By the end of the week they were teaching me the gospel! Plus we were able to talk to many parents. Perhaps we will see some of them in church soon.

But that's not all! We ended off the week with a community movie night where we watched Puss in Boots: The Last Wish. We had 100 friends and families join us for popcorn, candy, and fun. Everyone left happy, sugared up, and thankful.

Do you know when you have those weeks that are so amazing thinking about them just makes you emotional? That's this week. This was a huge win for the Kingdom of God and Arborway Community Church. Thank you for your continued support of Arboway. Without your generosity, none of this would be possible. If you were not able to participate this year get involved next year!  It is so much work, but every calorie of energy burned for the Kingdom of God is more than worth it.

I hope you will join us for worship tomorrow as we continue in 1 Peter. We're going to see how in Christ, no struggle or pain we go through is wasted.
