I used to own what is known as a "OneWheel." For those that don't know, a OneWheel is an electric skateboard with a single rubber wheel in the middle. It only works because a computer is constantly balancing the board. One malfunction and the rider is on their head.
Having one of these vehicles was a dream of mine. But realistically they were too expensive. I decided I would have to wait until Heaven before I rode one. No joke. Then a couple of Christmases ago Allie bought me a OneWheel! I had not been this excited over a gift since I was a kid.
It took some time to get used to, but after a few weeks, I was "Floating" around the streets of Boston like a pro. I was living the dream, that is, until my first real fall.
This is how it happened. I was commuting back home, like normal, and suddenly I was launched into the air. While I was wearing a helmet, I hit my head so hard I lost track of time. I had become confident in my skills and the board, but perhaps I was too confident. A few weeks later I took another big fall for no reason except the board malfunctioned. This happened two more times, and I was done. I knew that a concussion and sprained wrists were just the beginning. I was afraid it was going to malfunction me into traffic!
I called Allie up and told her I had to sell it. The OneWheel was not trustworthy enough to ride. I could no longer KNOW the OneWheel could hold me. So, I sold it and bought something more trustworthy: an electric bike which I have put hundreds of miles on without a single fall.
Many of us feel that way about our relationship with Christ. Can we really KNOW that we are going to Heaven (i.e., saved)? We may ask something like, "Did I go to church enough," "Did I say the right prayer," or "Have I been good enough?" And it's one thing to be "saved" and not be sure, but how can we KNOW it? If we're going to dedicate our lives to Jesus, it would be nice to be sure Jesus is not going to throw us off if we accidentally cuss once or twice (Or ten times).
If you have ever had doubts about your faith; if you have ever worried you've lost your salvation; if you thought you were too sinful to be saved; This new series is going to help you know how to know you are saved. If I have described you at all, I encourage you to worship with us tomorrow!
