We Have a Hulk

One of my favorite scenes from a superhero movie happens in the original Avengers from 2012.

It's been a while, so here is a quick plot refresher. Loki, brother of Thor and the god of mischief, is trying to take over Earth by using interdimensional beasts as his minions. A team of heroes, known as The Avengers, puts aside their differences and quirky personalities to defend Earth.

As the movie progresses, it seems like the Avengers may not defeat Loki and Earth would be lost. Loki begins to feel this too, and in a moment of hubris, he has a conversation with Tony Stark about his plans to take over Earth.

Tony challenges Loki saying that he has managed to make all the Avengers mad, and they are going to come for him. Loki smirks and says, "I have an army." Tony quickly replies, "We have a hulk." Loki looks stunned, and Tony continues, "There is no throne. There is no version of this where you come out on top."

By the film's end, Loki has been thoroughly trounced by Hulk, his army has been defeated, and he is locked away. The Avengers win.

Tomorrow we're going to see that there is not just a battle going on in your mind, but there is a battle going on for your mind. We have a spiritual enemy that is doing his best, and bringing his army to destroy the minds of every person. But Ephesians 6 will show us that "We have a hulk." As a believer, we don't fight the Devil for victory, we fight him from victory, and there is no version where he comes out on top.

Worship with us tomorrow as we examine our spiritual weapons and learn how to use them against our spiritual enemy who wants nothing more than to destroy our minds.
