I grew up in a Monopoly family. If I'm going to be specific, I grew up in a Star Wars Monopoly family. It's like regular Monopoly with Star Wars flourishes and a few different rules.
We learned all the tricks, moves, and analytics for Monopoly. We knew which properties were most likely to be landed on, how many houses were worth building, and that, counterintuitively, Coruscant (Boardwalk and Park Place) was never worth purchasing. We were skilled and ruthless.
We became so good that winning came down to the smallest mistakes and luck. Yet, eventually, every six-hour game ended with one of us absolutely filthy rich. We were swimming in millions upon millions of credits. We owned it all. We ruled the galaxy! *Insert maniacal laugh*
After a few moments of basking in glory, all the money would be put away and the lid would be shut. All that wealth was gone the moment the game was over. In the end, it didn't matter how much we had earned, or how powerful we were. When the lid went on, the game was over, and we went back to regular life.
Do you know what mattered most in the game? It was not how many credits we earned or properties we owned. When the game was put away, the lasting impact of Monopoly was how we treated each other during the game.
There is something to be learned here. If we are truly blessed, our lives consist of 70-80 years. We can play this game of life to get fame, money, and toys, but one day the lid will be closed. Then what will be left? What will matter most is what we did with Christ, and how we treated people during our lives.
Tomorrow we will see that where we focus our mind, is the single most important factor in living a successful life. I want to help you broaden your perspective past the this life and into the next.
