All I Want For Christmas is...

Thanksgiving is this week! That means Friday kicks off the Christmas festivities. Let's be real though, the holidays have began the day after Halloween. We know this because every Christmas Mariah Carey comes out of her cave feeling just fine to launch the Christmas season with her holiday classic "All I Want for Christmas is You." Early on I enjoyed this song as much as anyone, but after almost thirty years, I've had enough.

That being said, the concept for the song is sweet. Her Christmas list consists of one thing: Her man. While the decorations, trees, stockings, and gifts are nice, the only thing she needs is him. The true present is her significant other's presence. We may joke about the misery of spending Christmas with family, but if we're honest with ourselves, Christmas really isn't much alone. Christmas was meant to be shared.

Tomorrow we finish the body of Jesus's most famous sermon by seeing how the best gift God provides is not toys, houses, food, or even Taylor Swift tickets. It's himself. We'll learn that all we need for life is Christ. The best present is his presence.
